This stupa, although being in the heart of the city, has became a place of meditation, both for Buddhists and neo-Buddhists , and everyone who wants to experience serenity. This is the site in Nagpur where Dr. B.R. Ambedkar converted to Buddhism with five lakhs of his followers on Dushara (Vijaya Dashami), October 14, 1956. Since then Mauryan emperor Ashoka is believed to have converted formally to the Way of the Buddha on this day, Ambedkarite Buddhists observe it as "Ashoka Vijaya Dashami".
